So far the flooding has only been really bad in Tulare County and people are still scared that the town of Corcoran will be underwater soon as well as all the thousands of acres that could be underwater for up to 2 years time because of the ground sinking 10 to 15 feet over the years because of draining of the aquifer under the land.
So, the flooding and the water staying there and evaporating some should replenish the aquifer some over the next year or two.
But, in the meantime nothing can be grown on flooded farmland either. And even then you have to wait 3 to 6 months for the land to be tested in case it got polluted by the water that flooded it. Because when it floods it brings down everything imaginable from the mountains all the way to the flooded areas below.
So, what this does can be almost anything depending upon what it picks up along the way like Cattle or sheep or horse poop or human waste of various kinds or insecticides or paint or anything else along the way.
So, even after all this dries up it still has to be tested regularly for contamination of the soils before food can be grown there again.
Also, the water where it is in Tulare County cannot run off because it is lower than any rivers that could take the water away to the ocean.
Tulare Lake used to be the biggest lake in the Country but has been mostly dry for the last 20 years because of all the water pumped out of the aquifer there by farmers during the drought.
