Cyclosporiasis sounds about the same thing as Giardia which I got and 4 out of 5 members of my family got in India or Nepal or both. At that time the roads weren't paved much in Katmandu, Nepal so people went to the bathroom literally everywhere along with many animals of all kinds. so, when people drove cars or motorcycles or bicycles through Katmandu this dust likely had feces in it then. So, Every person I knew from the U.S. who went to Katmandu, Nepal during the 1985 to 1987 time got a case of giardia. I lost a lot o weight and looked like I had been in a concentration camp in world war II or something. We came back to the U.S. and the foreign disease specialist told us not to treat that version of Asian giardia because it would sluff off here in the U.S. because we have a different kind of giardia here that usually isn't as serious as the Asian one. So, the main danger with the Asian version of giardia might be that you might starve to death if you are really skinny when you get it. So, if you don't have enough padding to survive it you might not. I myself got the skinniest I had been since I was 17 years old which is pretty skinny for about 6 months here in the U.S. as I recovered from this. The reason she didn't want our children to take the medicine she had is that it could easily ruin their livers for life. So, the medicine was worse than letting it sluff off she said. (foreign disease specialist in the U.S. in California).
The most likely cause of this outbreak in the U.S. is recycled water which has feces in it that isn't treated with Clorine or something else. But, even if it is treated if it is contaminated in any way this could happen (the water).
Also, "explosive" diarrhea is no joke folks giardia has this effect too. So, one moment you get the cramps and the next moment you explode with diarrhea. You cannot time it to be in a bathroom so it's going to be going down your legs or something. Pretty gross when you have this. It's completely uncontrollable in this sense when you have this type of thing.

Symptoms
Symptoms
usually show up about a week after you eat the parasite, though it can
take anywhere from 2 to 14 days. The main sign is loud, watery,
"explosive" diarrhea. You might also have stomach cramps, nausea,
bloating, extreme tiredness, and a low-grade fever. Without treatment,
the illness can last from a few days to a month or longer. Your symptoms
might stop and then return in waves.
Causes and Spread
Testing and Treatment
You
can find out if you have the infection by giving a stool (poop) sample
to your doctor. The infection is treated with a specific antibiotic
combination known as TMP/SMX (Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole). Most
healthy people will fight off the infection on their own, but
antibiotics help you recover much faster.
