For me, writing became a much more serious thing for me when I was 8 years old and my male cousin died who was 16 in a car crash in Seattle. If I was 8 this would have been 1956 and I was living in Glendale and Going to Horace Mann Grade school at the time in 3rd grade.
So, since I was an only child I didn't really have anyone to talk to about this cousins death so I basically started writing at this time to try to cope and to heal myself so I could go on because this was scary for an 8 year old to deal with and made me feel vulnerable that one of my cousins had died.
So, I can look back at this situation and how much it helped me to write at age 8 to begin to heal myself.
Ever since then I learned from this experience to try to heal myself from all sorts of things by writing.
when you can write down problems when you are upset about one or more things and then read what you wrote about when you were upset, often you automatically come up with answers and solutions to those problems or ways to cope with those problems as your present self begins to help the distressed previous self that wrote whatever you were writing.
So, it is a way that your present self heals your past self"s problems that is really amazing here.
