My housekeeper made and interesting comment today: She said,"What's going to happen when armed teachers start shooting children because they do something to upset them?"
Actually, this is a good point. If your teacher is armed with a loaded gun and you know this, wouldn't you be scared if it was a bad or crazy teacher?
My third grade teacher, Mrs. Bishop picked up boys by the ears and hurt them by picking them up off the ground like this while they cried and screamed in 3rd grade at Horace Mann Grade School during the 1950s then. I was 8 years old. However, I made it a point not to do anything to make her do this to me. So, I wonder if someone had given her a gun, would she have shot us too? Her husband had recently divorced her. However, parents complained and she was soon fired for abusing children.
So, psychological profiles of teachers might be necessary if you are going to arm them. And if they are going through a death or divorce at the time this should also be considered to see if teachers are stable enough to carry a gun into the classrooms.
