Why Police are taught to shoot to kill only

I was wondering about this myself because usually when a policeman or policewoman shoots someone it is a head shot or a heart shot.

Why is this?

Here is the reason.

As a police officer you have to carry a gun every day not just once in a while. So, literally any day someone might try to steal your weapon from you and shoot you or someone else with it. So, most of the time you are protecting your weapon from misuse by yourself or others.

So, If and when you draw your weapon, police are always taught to shoot to kill. So, if it becomes necessary for a policeman or woman draws their gun likely someone is going to die either they are or the person they are shooting at.

So, you have to think about all this a little bit. If you are carrying a loaded weapon every single day when you go to work you want to make sure you survive the day (365 days a year). You want to go home to your family. So, if someone makes the mistake of making you draw your weapon you are going to kill them no questions asked like you were trained to do any day that happens.

This is actually a way for police officers to stay alive longer. It is also a way so police are there to protect more people in all situations so they are not shot unless it is an accident or someone shoots them or stabs them or whatever.

However, from a bystanders point of view no one would likely understand it in this way.

Police are trained to shoot to kill to protect you better so they stay alive to be able to take care of you.

Also, if you wound someone in the leg you don't know if they are on something like PCP which would just piss someone off on PCP and make them more likely to kill you than before. So, shooting to kill someone when someone makes you draw your weapon is logical in this situation too.
