Earth is a Lifeboat

Even if we could sustain the human beings now on earth we could NOT sustain the children they would have too.

So, by sustaining all the people now you would be forcing many people's children to die horribly of starvation within 20 to 50 years.

In 1900 most educated people believed then that the maximum amount of people living on earth existed then. Why?

Because Diesel Tractors were not in use over 90% of the earth. That's why

Until you had diesel farm tractors in use it wasn't possible to have as many people as now.

Another factor was water. Water then was unpredictable too. So, unless you lived somewhere people had a year around flowing river or they had a dam to dam up the rivers (while they were running) you couldn't depend upon water to irrigate crops.

Even now places like the Colorado River have been in one form or another of drought now since about 2000 AD ongoing.

So, everything West of the rockies depends upon the Colorado River including the state of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California has been having water management problems ever since then.

Some places have a deep aquifer like Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley but if you drain the aquifer (it is expected to be drained within 10 years time now) what happens then? Do you pump water over from the pacific ocean after you desalinate it? Do you syphon it over the mountains from the ocean to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley?

Problems like this are happening more frequently around the world because of our population explosion from 1 billion in 1900 to almost 8 billion now.

So, at some point what are people going to do?

Since Earth is a lifeboat there is limited space to grow. There is a limited amount of freshwater, and what happens if your family isn't getting potable fresh water or food worldwide?

What are you going to do?
