Snow advisories, threats of rain, flooding issued for 24 states

Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Two dozen states are under storm alerts on Monday -- with heavy rain, snow, ice and strong winds expected in the coming days.
Forecasters said the wintry weather pattern is slowly moving eastward as arctic air from Canada causes low temperatures and the threat of heavy snow in the Rockies. Winter storm warnings and advisories were posted for 24 states, from the Pacific Ocean to upper Michigan.
In the West, snow fell near Seattle and in Southern California's
mountains over the weekend. High winds helped spread a wildfire in
California's Inyo County, prompting evacuations.
Forecasters said heavy snow is expected in northern Plains states -- and heavy rain and flooding is predicted for parts of the Midwest on Monday, and in the southern Plains states by Tuesday. Widespread snow is forecast until Tuesday in the northern and central Rocky Mountains.
Meteorologists said freezing rain is possible from the Mississippi Valley to the Upper Great Lakes and to Maine.
The National Weather Service said Texas and Arkansas could see up to 6 inches of rainfall by mid-week, and Colorado could receive up to 2 feet of snow.
Meanwhile, record high temperatures are expected on the East Coast. Highs in Florida could reach 90 degrees this week -- with temperatures in the 70s and 80s predicted or the rest of the South and Mid-Atlantic regions.
