"The Shape of Water" is a very haunting movie. But in a good way

Two nights ago I believe now I went to see "The Shape of Water(2017) with my wife and a friend. I find I haven't been able to put it out of my mind like most movies. Why?

Because you are transported to what to most people today would be an alien world. The United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s is alien enough. But then, you add the alieness of the "God like" alien Creature worshipped by a South American Tribe (AND) by the little mute cleaning lady where they are keeping the creature in a government run facility.

I'm trying here not to give away too much of the plot (so maybe if you are still going to see the movie you shouldn't read anymore here).

So, basically the little mute cleaning lady, who before going to work at I believe midnight cleaning this U.S. government facility on the East Coast of the U.S. takes a bath and pleasures herself in her bath before she goes to work every day.

There is some kind of connection between the scratches on her throat and the God like Amphibious alien and her muteness and her pleasuring herself in the bathtub before she goes to work at a really boring Janitorial type of job.

So she starts feeding him eggs and speaking to him in sign language which he seems to pick up quite fast. So, he doesn't speak with words either but he does make sounds sort of like a fish or a frog.

I think if I stop there you might still enjoy the movie.

But, either way, I can't stop thinking about this movie because it is a very deep movie that sort of overwhelms your subconscious in a variety of ways. Since all life on earth sprang up originally out of the sea we are all moved by this saga likely in ways that are unexpected. Even our first 9 months of existence here on earth we move in an ocean of a saline sea in our mother's womb. This is what all of us actually do when we first arrive on this planet before birth.

So, this movie is a very primal movie on all levels for a human being to watch.

In some ways if you took the movie "Splash" with Tom Hanks and made it a serious drama like "The Shape of Water" then you have what the shape of Water actually is which is remarkable in every way.

I really understand now why it has been nominated for 13 Academy Awards. Whether it wins any or all it is definitely the most remarkable movie of the new year so far.
