On the northern California Coast night time temperatures are at least 10 degrees above normal last night

Although the day time temperatures reached almost 80 degrees yesterday this isn't for me the main indicator of how severe the heat is inland. No.

The main indicator of how severe the heat is is in regard to night time temperatures being at least 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Normally, a night time temperature should be somewhere in the 50s range of Fahrenheit. However, last night the low was literally 67 degrees here which is very very unusual. You don't usually see this more than a day or two a year with a night time low along the coast that high.

Today they expect temperatures in the mid 80s along the coast which is highly unusual but we often get 1 or more days above 80 degrees per year in August or around September like this year.

So, most people where I live do not have air conditioners because usually we don't need one and if it is only 84 degrees today we likely won't even need one today either and I believe today is likely to be the hottest day so far along the northern California coast.

For example, at 7 am it is already 69 degrees outside which is basically unheard of any time of year for where I live on the coast. So, you can see why hundreds of high temperature records are being broken throughout the state every day now.
