What's the difference between a Hurricane and a Cyclone?

The way it has been explained to me is that a Hurricane is out of the Atlantic Ocean and a Cyclone is out of the Pacific Ocean.

However, normally because most Hurricanes are hitting place like Florida and Texas here in the U.S. we call them Hurricanes even in California to make it less confusing. Even though technically because it is in the Pacific Ocean maybe it should be called a Cyclone.

This appears to be the case.
