Tsampa is roasted Barley flour to which yak butter is added and is a staple across the Himalayas sort of like Granola is a staple for hikers in U.S. and Europe
I also ate tsampa with Tibetans in India and Nepal and also had Yak Butter Tea with them as well. I met many Tibetans and Tibetan Lamas and Monks and Anis who are like Nuns of Tibetan Buddhism throughout India and Nepal, especially in Dharamshala where the Dalai Lama lives with 10,000 or more Tibetan Buddhists.
