5th Day on Diet

I got sort of discouraged last night late. I  think it was because it was the 11th anniversary of 9-11. I watched a program about a guy who worked on the 64 floor of the second tower for the port authority and had made it down to the 22nd floor when the building collapsed around him. His life was not taken because of a fluke or miracle (either one). An engineer explained what happened to him. As the building collapsed it compressed the air inside it and created 150 mph or greater updrafts within the building as it collapsed. So, basically the wind was blowing so hard vertically that he rode a cushion of air down to the 7th floor. And since nothing cut him or crushed him he was just knocked out unconscious when he hit the 7th floor section he landed on. So, whether you see this as a miracle or fluke, either way this guy survived to be with his wife and soon to be born baby.

So, later that night I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere with my diet and decided to make myself an Heirloom tomato and cheese sandwich with mayonnaise. After I ate this I felt sort of like I was starving myself a little too much and this might prevent weight loss if my body goes into too much of an emergency mode of trying to hold onto fat and nutrients. So, I woke up very clear headed this morning and plan to continue the diet but to modify it a little for efficiency. I think each person has to find their own balance and to design their diets and lives every day. I think this is the only real way to wind up with the results we all can live with.

I looked up the calories of a young coconut because my wife thought it might be a lot of calories but luckily I was right. It is only 186 calories:

I'm starting out the day using a young coconut like one might a breakfast cereal on this diet. Since I know that a coconut is one of thing things that people can live on without anything else(if you can eat them at all stages only which usually means living around where they grow) I thought this would be a balanced start to the day on this diet. I usually also eat something like a fresh grapefruit or fresh orange juice or fresh organic raspberries and blueberries for mental acuity.

About 4pm I finally realized the congestion in my chest was going to have me move away from a full time diet and back to a part time diet. It is very important (especially if you are over 40 or 50) when dieting to be extremely observant of all physiological and psychological changes you are going through while dieting. It is in your enlightened self interest to keep in balance and alive while dieting.
So, I'm going back for a while to the 1,2, or 3 organic vegan meals or juice meals a day to maintain my weight loss. And if it seems safe I will continue with a full time diet at that point.

Note: This diet has not gone as smoothly as my first one. The main problem I realize now is that I didn't choose to have any protein at all in the first 5 days until this afternoon I made organic milk, organic apples, organic strawberries and one scoop of soy protein powder into a smoothie. I realized this was my biggest mistake this week of not ever choosing any soy protein drinks at all either at home or from Jamba juice. So, I would give this 5 days a 75 out of 100 in success and the last one in June at about a 95 out of 100. Also, I noticed my body didn't want to give up weight as easily as before either. So, I found this also discouraging. The 11th anniversary of 9-11 I also found psychologically hard to deal with on this diet as well as the death of the first U.S. Ambassador to die in foreign service since 1979, as well as all the others who died defending the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

The most encouraging thing this week in my diet was looking in the mirror and at my hands which really looked a lot thinner. Everyone loses weight differently but I tend to lose weight the quickest in my hands and legs and face I notice. So, all I have to do is to either look in the mirror or to look at my hands and I see and feel the difference. So, in that sense this week was another success.
