If a phreatic eruption on Hawaii is intense enough people nearby won't be able to breathe

I'm thinking if one is too near to a potential phreatic eruption they might want an oxygen tank or a Scuba Tank to Breathe to get away from there in their vehicles in time to stay alive. It says that people can be asphyxiated (which means die from lack of oxygen) in some phreatic eruptions. Just make sure your Scuba tank is filled far enough away from this area so it doesn't have any Hydrogen sulfide gas on board which in high enough concentrations might damage or kill a person too.

Phreatic eruption - Wikipedia

Phreatic eruptions typically include steam and rock fragments; the inclusion of lava is unusual. The temperature of the fragments can range from cold to incandescent. If molten magma is included, it is classified as a phreatomagmatic eruption. These eruptions occasionally create broad, low-relief craterscalled maars. Phreatic explosions can be accompanied by carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide gas emissions. The former can asphyxiate at sufficient concentration; the latter is a broad spectrum poison. A 1979 phreatic eruption on the island of Java killed 140 people, most of whom were overcome by poisonous gases.[3]
