I have been checking the fire map every day now to make sure that they kept the fire away from the dam faces of Trinity Lake Dam and Shasta Lake Dam, because if those areas are burned away you have another danger in the winter of one of the dams becoming eroded in winter weather and failing as a result within the year. So, keeping fire away from the edges of the two dams likely is saving thousands of lives and homes from being destroyed from an undermined dam in the future if and when it failed with the initial cause being the Carr fire. So, I'm hopeful they can keep the fire away from all dams in the area now. Also, the soot pollutes the water and often kills any fish in the area too by making the water too acidic for fish to live in from fires. This is less of a problem in rivers because rivers are always moving and changing water. But, in dams and lakes this becomes a problem because most of the water stays somewhat stationary. It's true there likely are some currents but mostly lakes and dams are stationary with only a little water coming into and going out of them at a time.
