More people are maimed or killed by buffalo in the U.S. than by any other animal

Here's the thing. People think buffalo in Yellowstone are cows. They are NOT cows. They have survived here in the U.S. for thousands and thousands of years against every animal: Mountain lions, bears, wolves, etc.

The first to harm buffalo almost too extinction was man in the 1800s with long rifles. But, don't get me wrong they are still wild buffaloes.

Here is what a male buffalo will do if you piss him off (for any reason. He will butt you and knock you down and then he will take his front hooves and crush your chest and head with his front hooves with all his weight. This is what they always do.

What other animal does this?

Rhinos do this too. However, Rhinos don't see as well as Buffalo do. So, once you are knocked down unless you are very young and fast, you likely are dead too.

The only difference with Rhinos is first they take their horn and split you up the middle and then they knock you down and stomp you with their front feet. This is what they do (if they can see you).

Knowing these things it keeps you alive if you are around Rhinos or Buffalo. So, if you are going to Yellowstone or anywhere there are Rhinos still alive and not extinct, remember this.

When White Rhinos were still alive and not extinct in Royal Chitwan National park in Nepal on the Terai I had to run from Rhinos during mating season and hide in a tree while one of them butted the tree I was climbing in for safety over and over again and holding on for dear life. Luckily, I was only 37 then in 1985 when this happened so I could run pretty fast. I had pushed my wife then up into another tree. Unfortunately she had the camera so we didn't get any good photos. But, we both survived with our lives to tell the story.
