This is likely in the future but could also be happening now as well. Something horrific happens to soldiers somewhere on earth. Then they are asked to make a full report and then given an Amnesiac to forget that day. Short term memories can be easily redacted from your memory with amnesiacs completely. This likely is what UFOs have used on people since the beginning of time to forget their incidents with UFOs too. This would eliminate conscious memories but you still might subconsciously remember things in your dreams. The same with Soldiers. They might have bad dreams about what they were involved in too but it wouldn't directly connect to their conscious minds anymore. So, the dreams would be more like gibberish that don't have real meaning but would be more like watching a TV movie that is made up.
What is the real problem with all of this?
The problem is that soldiers often will be "ordered" to do things that they would never do under normal circumstances. It becomes the same problem you will have with robots being ordered to do horrific things too like kill thousands of innocent children and women and people. This is also something that will likely happen in the future. But, if memories (of humans or robots) are wiped away then that means "No one at all might remember what actually happened!"
So, this is a part of our future likely as well. However, our memories of UFOS have mostly been eliminated from our lives too for thousands of years now as well. And that is horrific in relation to the truth also for likely 100,000 to 1,000,000 years or even 65 million years ago when our ancestory nuked their planet into the asteroid belt out past mars.
