I got this in India and Nepal in 1985 and 1986 when I was there with my family. 4 out of 5 of us had it for around 6 months time while we all lost weight until we looked like scarecrows in a field. But, finally after 6 months I stopped seeing black spots before my eyes from starvation as the Doctor who was a specialist in Foreign Diseases told us it would slowly slough off.
She also told us that the medicine we would have to take to kill it would damage our children's livers so we listened to her because she said that in the U.S. it would slowly slough off because it doesn't really live here only in Asia this type of Giardia.
However, the uncontrollable diarrhea which is pretty embarrassing sort of like the wedding gown scene in "Bridesmaids(2011). So, if you want to see what Giardia or Cyclosporidia watch the wedding gown scene in Bridesmaids(2011) because that is exactly what it is like (at least for the first month or so).
We dealt with this for up to 6 months so hopefully you won't go through what my family did then in 1986 when we returned to San Francisco then after being gone the last part of 1985 and the first 4 months of 1986.
Oh by the way, we weren't sick until the last couple months over there so we didn't really get sick that much until maybe march or after because we got there in December.
However, everyone we knew who went to Kathmandu, Nepal got it those years so I think it was feces of animals and people in the dust as many of the roads in Kathmandu were still not paved then.
So, we were very careful food and water wise but the dust in Kathmandu got us then but I think now most everything is paved there.
However, now the air pollution is so bad you can no longer see the Himalayas or Mt. Everest from Kathmandu, Nepal. If you want to see it you have to physically go there to even see Mt. Everest now or the Himalayas.
