In the first episode of Strange New Worlds they deal with this a little. Even though it might be fictional they still deal with all of this.
65 million years ago a piece of the destroyed planet Maldek hit Earth and killed all the larger dinosaurs by hitting the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico which is showed in this episode too.
So, whether this is the real story or a fictionalized version of the true story it's hard to say.
However, it is also true that when the 5th planet was destroyed Mars atmosphere and the ability of humanoids to breathe on Mars also ended 65 million years ago as well as all the dinosaurs on earth dying because of one of the Asteroids of the nuked planet Maldek hit earth and killed them all over a few years then. Also, we have DNA from Mars and likely Maldek here on earth which is why humans can speak unlike Apes who cannot. So, speaking like we do (the capability of language also likely came from Maldek and Mars. And we are very likely a combination of Ape DNA mixed with Humanoid DNA from Mars and Maldek too from 65 million years ago.
We have also had Intergalactic Travel here on earth until another group (probably relatives of ours) pushed Mu (where the Hawaiian Islands are now) under the Ocean from Space and created the unstable "Ring of Fire" around the whole Pacific Rim" now which is why there are so many earthquakes in places like Japan and California and Chile in South America ever since then.
So, in this sense this episode 1 of Season 4 of "Strange New Worlds" (a Star Trek Spinoff on paramount) is interesting because it deals with some of these things in a really interesting way.
