There was a decade of darkness when the asteroid hit Yucatan and killed all the larger land dinosaurs 65 million years ago

 I was thinking about this. If there was a decade of darkness how many plants could still grow? So, how did what survived actually survive? Maybe they ate all the bigger dinosaurs one by one as they died. How did the plants that survived survive? Did their seeds survive or did the plants survive? Likely all of the above happened on land.

Then in the oceans and lakes it is an entirely different story because lakes and oceans store the heat of the sun much more than the land does. So, this would mean that big land dinosaurs would all die out but those that moved to the ocean maybe like "Whales?" might have survived if this is what they actually did.

For example, Sea Elephants like you can see sometimes at Ano Nuevo north of santa Cruz California were once likely a land animal before they went to the sea to survive the Asteroid taking the sun away for 10 years time. Sea Lions it is thought were once Wolves on land before they reverted to the sea 65 million years ago too 

Episode 3 of Surviving Earth ON TV shares a lot of this information if you are interested in learning more about the asteroid from Maldek the planet when it was nuked out of existence then hit earth and killed all the larger land dinosaurs. Was it accidental or did our ancestors send this one so they could come here because Maldek was Gone as a planet and the pieces of Maldek wiped out the atmosphere and oceans of Mars leaving the surface uninhabitable for humans. Only underground could they have survived and many people likely didn't want to do that so eventually moved to earth (those that survived this).
