The point is preparing for a potential recession might prepare you at least financially for what might be coming. Since Trump got in as president I knew he likely was going to be another Herbert Hoover who created the last Great Depression with tariffs and the Great Depression actually caused world war II as well. Even Japan attacking Pearl Harbor was because we wouldn't sell them any oil. So, all these factors before that are similar to now with Trump could be bringing another Great Depression to the whole world and not just to other countries already.
