Writing can be healing

With PTSD so rampant in the world now with the wars in Ukraine and Israel and Gaza, writing can be very helpful and healing to help make sense of things inside each of us in dealing with all of this. PTSD mostly is about fragmentation of people's subconscious minds. We are trained as children "Not to kill other human beings" and so when confronted with kill or be killed situations whether in the military or just in life we fragment when we must kill or we are killed. There are no winners when people have to be killed. Everyone loses in a major way. Though some people can "Put off" the PTSD agony, all civilized people will eventually suffer with it when put into kill or be killed situations. The same happens to all police officers and firemen around the world. Everyone who deals with disasters must face this fragmentation whether they are doctors or nurses or firemen who are EMTs or whoever. So, whoever has to deal with mayhem of any kind is always affected by these experiences.

Often writing can help us deal with the mayhem in our lives. I was very lucky because I wasn't drafted for Viet Nam when I was 18 to 26 years old and so I never served in the military. This allowed me to go to college and to live a more "NORMAL" life than many of the young men I knew then. I met friends who deserted the Army in Viet Nam (one was a room mate) in Venice, California when I was 21. However, I didn't know this about him at the time. He eventually spent 5 years in Jail in Minnesota where he was originally from I later found out. I had friends who want to Canada so they wouldn't be drafted. I had a friend who was a Marine Sargent in Viet Nam and was ordered to do something that would have gotten him and his whole platoon killed. He refused to do this and was dishonorably discharged. The next Sargent followed the orders and the whole platoon died. Though he was discharged at least he had a clear conscience and was able to live with himself. Often orders in battle will get everyone killed (especially this was true in the Viet Nam War). Fragging of young officers was very common during VIET Nam too where young gung ho lieutenants would get the line soldiers killed. So, whenver this type of soldier was spotted the line soldiers would "Frag" them by rolling a hand grenade under their tent when they were asleep. This also was very common during the Viet Nam War. This is one reason why we now have an all volunteer Army today because of all these problems during the Viet Nam War.

Writing can be healing whether you are writing only for yourself or whether you are writing for others as well as yourselves. Try writing and see if it helps you and others in your life.

I find writing to be very healing

It's a way to make more sense of one's life and what is happening around one. It also helps other people often when you discuss what you are thinking on any given subject. However, some people don't have enough facts to make judgements because we are all in this fix to some degree.

My father once said to me in the 1950s: He said: "You are becoming a man and a man has to make decisions for himself and his family and sometimes for his friends the rest of his life. But, one NEVER has enough information almost ever to make any of the decisions one has to make. So, all you can do is to keep making decisions with the best information you can get on any subject while at the same time reserving the right to change any of your decisions at another point as more information on the subject arises."

My father was Valedictorian of his High School Senior class. You can see by his statement just how intelligent he was. Him saying this to me made me much better at making decisions for myself, my family and sometimes when I had to for others as well. So, because of my father I became a good decision maker   and  I realize NONE of us have all the information we need when making any decisions at all. We just have to keep making decisions for our life to work at all.

Writing can be healing

Recently, an old girlfriend of when I was 16 years old passed away. I was 16 then and she was 21 and a member of my church. She was very surprised at the time to be 21 and to get involved with me at 16 but I was very grown up in some ways already simply because of health issues I had already survived between 2 and 15. I had had whooping cough and 2 and almost died and my best friend that I gave my newspaper delivery route to when I was 10 years old had had polio. So, we both tended to be much more grown up than most people our ages. Then at age 10 I fell rock climbing and hit my head and got a concussion and had night time seizures for about 5 years time until my skull grew enough to relieve the pressure on my brain.

So, at 16 I had already worked and bought my own car a 1956 Ford Station wagon that I called "My Surf Wagon" because I was a surfer then and used to drive down Los Angeles Freeways with over 10 foot Long Boards they call them now that we surfed on then in the 1960s. I had a 10 foot 4 inch Hobie surfboard at the time.

So, when we went out for a movie we wound up going to a drive in movie to see a really awful movie called "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" by Betty Davis which was scary and this 21 year old girl was scared and held onto me in her fear. We went together for 6 months to a year and were very good friends too. We shared a similar philosophy of life then which is a very important thing at that age to do between friends.

However, eventually I moved on to another girlfriend eventually because I was too young to know what to do full time with a 21 year old girlfriend because by 21 girls often got serious and I wasn't ready for that at 16 or 17.

So now, she was married for maybe 40 years or more of her life to someone else and a mutual friend told me that she was gone. At first it was a shock to me because she was an important part of my life that I wasn't ready to say goodbye to. I had always thought I would see her again and catch up as long time friends but only saw her once on church grounds around 1994 or 1995 and that was it.

So, letting go of my memories of her now that she is gone I find it unbearably hard.

She came to me after she passed on and caught up with me on the other side and I felt comforted by this because she and I in some ways were always going to be okay because of our deep friendship way back when and this was still true even with her on the other side.

So, writing about this it helps me to let those memories go some so I can move on in my own life and she can move on as the angel she always was.

Writing can be healing

Whether you print it all out on paper (I've done this) or write it all out on paper longhand(I've done this) or use a tyepwriter (I've done this a lot) especially starting in 7th grade when I took a summer typing class and bought a Royal typewriter for Junior high High school and college then (I was 12 in 1960) so I was 15 when Kennedy was assassinated and then later his brother.

So, writing can help you heal the traumas of your life. However, it does help to study some psychology so you know what might help you heal.

I started out around age 21 or 22 at Palomar reading Psychology Today Magazines and realized that I could stay alive rather than killing myself then. I realized I could dump about 90% of my pride engendered into me by my father and grandfather because I realized if I took on what they taught me I would surely be dead by age 25. So, I let all that go as a form of therapy and went my own way into my future.

As I moved forward I tried to help my father with the psychology of spiritual awakening and progressive revelation which comes direct in your dreams at night while you are with God sleeping. So, often I wake up inside of God's mind and heart and this is always very peaceful and nice and amazing. I found that getting away from cities and staying away from alcohol and drugs and being in the wilderness in places like Mt. Shasta and Hawaii is very very healing for me to heal the traumas of my youth and young adulthood.

In this way I found a way to stay alive, get married, have a family, start businesses, live in beautiful places and travel the world with my friends and relatives by the time I was about 30 to 32.

However, from around 18 to 25 was very difficult to survive in establishing my way forward to creating my own heaven on earth which I succeeded in along the way.

It's not that it's easy to succeed here in life (However, you define success). However, I didn't think money was very important (getting rich) until I got into my 40s and asked God to make me a custodian of his wealth and he did.

However, I had no idea then that to God wealth is good people first and anything to do with money later.

So, even in my 40s and 50s and after God has taught me amazing amazing things.
