PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A freezing rain advisory remains in effect until noon Monday for the Portland-Vancouver metro areas.
The morning commute is likely to be affected, especially exposed bridges like the Glen Jackson Bridge. The timing for the main threat on the east side of the metro area is between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
With that forecast in mind, dozens of schools announced a Monday closure by Sunday afternoon.
Included in the list are the Portland Public Schools, Vancouver School District, Beaverton and Gresham.
Vancouver officials said the major streets in their city are “mostly bare, wet pavement” and vastly improved from Sunday morning.
Portland’s Central Catholic High School will open at 10 a.m.

The Ice Storm Warning continues for the Portland-Vancouver metro area through 10 p.m. Sunday, and residents are urged to stay home and off the roads.
The City of Portland sent a text alert urging “all residents to stay indoors today and not travel due to ice.” It was the first time ever the city used this system.
But at 4:30 p.m., the city asked the “traveling public to use caution as snow and isolated icy conditions persist in the area.”
The streets are better than they were Sunday morning, officials said. Transportation Director Leah Treat said in a statement the city still recommends “using public transit and walking with caution if must travel.”
After suspending the MAX lines and the Portland Streetcar Saturday night because of the ice on the wires, TriMet is slowly putting trains back into service.
Service was halted about 7:45 p.m. Saturday night when the ice on the power lines made it too dangerous to continue.
Thousands of people are without power throughout Oregon, some in the Portland metro area. PGE has the latest totals on their website.
KOIN 6 News Chief Meteorologist Bruce Sussman said the roads will begin to thaw around mid-day Sunday, and by sunset most areas will be turning slushy.
Along the Oregon coast, there will be considerably warmer temperatures and a big thaw.
More than 50 people sheltered at a warming center in Gresham on Saturday. Gresham officials suggest you know where your water shutoff valve is in case the pipes freeze.
An 11-mile stretch of road in Clackamas County remains closed because of snow drifts. The stretch is on Marmot Road from Barlow Trail Road to Ten Eyck Road. Officials urge everyone to stay off roads in the county.
The Portland Art Museum is closed on Sunday and all screenings at the Portland International Film Festival were cancelled. Details are on their website regarding refunds and exchanges
OHSU Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital are open and ambulances can access both. The Tram will operate until 8 p.m. Sunday.
The Multnomah County Circuit Court will open at 10 a.m. Monday, and new jurors should report at that time.
The previously scheduled mediation between the Portland Public Schools district administration and the Portland Association of Teachers was postponed until Monday. The teachers authorized a strike in a vote on Feb. 5, but the negotiations continue. The strike date is set for Feb. 20.
