It's not a Christian versus Muslim Fight: However, it is an anti-genocide fight

It's important to distinguish exactly what is happening here. Obama has gone out of his way not to involve himself in the sectarian war between Shias and Sunnis. It is important to note that the Shia Sunni War has been going on off and on since the 600s when Mohammed first passed on.

What Obama is presently doing is preventing an ongoing genocide of approximately 300,000 or more Christians and other minorities like the Tazidis. This is just something that even the United Nations would support in trying to prevent a genocide of more than 300,000.

It is unknown at present how many have been genocided either in Iraq or Syria over the past 4 years now. The number is quite high any way you look at it and may have surpassed the numbers in the wars in Yugoslavia, Serbia and Bosnia in the 1990s at present.

For a similar reason to those wars the U.S. and Europe and the U.N. are beginning to get involved trying to stop the genocide of innocent people in Iraq. Getting involved in this way in Syria is a different story for the U.S. because of old Cold War rules of "Sphere of influence" for the U.S.

However, Iraq is considered by Russia as part of the U.S. "Sphere of influence" so they likely won't interfere in what the U.S. or Nato does there in Iraq.
