Too little, too late? ISIL persecution of Christians ‘top priority’ of Obama Administration

The Obama administration has made it a top priority to protect Middle East Christians and other minorities from persecution.images
In an interview with The Blaze this week, State Department officials said they’ve authorized another $14.3 million in humanitarian assistance to Iraqis, on top of the $136 million the agency already committed this year.
“We’re meeting with those in vulnerable communities, religious representatives and leaders in the region,” Steven Feldstein, deputy assistant secretary with the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor said. “We’re looking to fully engage to the extent possible to assist those who have been persecuted by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant terrorist group.”
Apparently, it’s not helping.
Islamic State fighters have forced most Christians from Mosul and other cities, according to The Blaze. The State Department estimated that 1 million Christians lived in Iraq in 2003, and 500,000 have been either killed or displaced. In Mosul, only 3,000 remain of the 50,000 Christians who once lived there.
“Very little can be done at this point in time and that money is a drop in the bucket,” a U.S. official with knowledge of the region told The Blaze. “It’s almost too late anyways. Most of the Christians have already fled, and others have already been forced to convert. This certainly can be categorized as a genocide.”
26mosul.600.1The head of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue, vented his anger at Obama on the group’s website.
“Christians are being beheaded all over the Middle East because they are Christians, and those carrying out this mass murder are doing so in the name of Islam,” Donohue wrote. “Yet you continue to say and do absolutely nothing about these unspeakable crimes. Do Christian lives mean so little to you?”
