I think the main reason we aren't hearing more about this in the news is that if this really hit the news it could turn the middle east "Seriously into World War III" because of what is happening to Christians right now in Syria and Iraq and likely soon to be in Lebanon as well the way this thing is going. Most of the beheading of Shias and Christians (this is happening to both) is by ISIL(ISIS).

Basically, the first thing that happens is if Christians don't have money they are beheaded. If they do have money they might be able to pay a fee to stay alive until all their money is gone. Meanwhile their wives and daughters might become sex slaves or beheaded too. Then their lands and goods are all confiscated and their Christian churches (some 1800 years old) are burned down. This is what has been happening at the very least since June now ongoing in Syria and northern and Western Iraq.

However, the other interesting thing is that Assad doesn't kill Christians as long as they are loyal to him and don't fight him and as far as I know this is also true of the Maliki Shia government in Iraq.
