Pavlovian Conditioning.
My wife took issue with this article with how I wrote it and I must admit this was a 70s type of article. I decided to try to write this better for people who haven't been trained by studying psychology in college in the 1970s like I was. I also studied Philosophy, Sociology and Cultural Anthropology in college then and later.
But, my wife complained that many people have not studied psychology or anything else like this because they haven't been to college or that wasn't their interest to study philosophy, sociology, cultural Anthropology or psychology in college like it was for me then.
So, I'm trying to correct what I wrote in Pavlovian Conditioning. If you want to read this article please click on it.
First of all, Pavlov is known for conditioning dogs to salivate when he rang a bell that they associated with being fed. So, my use of his name might not be useful here in this context.
However, if you start with the notion that socialization of human beings consists of training them not to kill each other and that the notion of training police or soldiers is to PRESERVE SOCIETY and to sacrifice a few humans to preserve Societal or Cultural Order, you begin to understand that police and Soldiers are trained to sacrifice themselves (if necessary) so that society and their home cultures are not destroyed by crazy people or criminals or people with bad intentions for society in general.
So, this likely is how this should be viewed: that some people are trained to sacrifice themselves so society and cultures and nations and cities can exist with enough order for people to want to live there in the first place.
But, the point I was trying to make was that Socialization and police or military training are opposite things that tend to create PTSD when police or Soldiers are put in "Kill or be Killed situations".
So, it could be seen as a form of "Self Abuse" by soldiers and police for the good of humanity and their cities and nations.
However, what I think is important here is that police and Soldiers worldwide not be naive about all this because psychological harm likely will be the result of such training when it actually has to be used in a life or death situation.
This is a given.
So, becoming a Soldier or police person brings the risk of eventual PTSD. And with PTSD also comes the risk of Suicide of that person or a homicide of someone that person loves because this is often the nature of PTSD.
To not see this is to be very naive or stupid in one's life.
So, if you wish to be a police person or soldier this comes with the territory: Potential PTSD and your own death through Suicide or your murder of someone you love or a stranger.
To not prepare for this just isn't logical in the end.
However, I don't think most people embarking in these kinds of careers are thinking in this way because they are usually too young to consider this properly.
I grew up with guns in my own life and realized at the time I didn't want to be faced with PTSD. I had already had Whooping cough and Blunt Trauma childhood epilepsy. I had already experienced twice someone trying to kill me with a knife at my throat. I knew already how crazy life was here on earth. I didn't need to accentuate how crazy life was by becoming a soldier or police man so I moved my life in a different direction because that was possible for me.
Some people don't have a choice in this. I'm grateful that I did and that I was intelligent enough to take the direction I did.
But, like I said before, "Some people feel they have no other choice but to join the police or military around the world and all must respect that too. I'm just grateful I wasn't forced into that choice so that I don't have PTSD as a result of that. What I experienced already took me to the edge of suicide and back. So, I'm grateful I wasn't forced by life to have a crazier life than I already have had to live. We all have to deal with the cards we are dealt with in life.
