However, if you look into this more carefully it has mostly been done in anti-democratic ways. In otherwords you can attribute most of this change to Gerrymandering and the kind of thing you see lately in North Carolina.
So, basically, you can see the U.S. slowly disintegrating into a non Federal State and into individual States not democratically run but becoming run more in dictatorial ways by voter suppression and other ways to repress minorities of all kinds.
It is whites getting paranoid about losing the country to minorities so they are more willing to end our democracy rather than to cede any power at all.
So, it is becoming more a rule by a white oligarchy against all minorities in many states.
It might be important to understand if you live outside the U.S. that 95% or more of the minorities in the U.S. vote democratic. Republicans are almost exclusively rich white folks with under 5% of the richest blacks. Poor whites also voted for Trump but I think he has already betrayed them from everything I see so far. And also the Republican party might be becoming something it has never been before. So, as a result the Democratic party might be forced to be something it has never been before either. Time will tell.
