IN heavy winds you always slow down especially with a lot of weight on board a plane in the air
The reason for this is if you don't slow down in heavy winds (especially up and down drafts and crosswinds and wind shears) you might rip one of the wings off especially in a smaller plane. But this can also happen in big planes too with inexperienced pilots flying faster than is safe.
