I was able to swim in "The Queen's Bath" on big island of Hawaii in 1974 before lava covered it over

In 1974 I was 26 and married for the first time and my wife and baby son had moved to Hilo, Hawaii from California where we were both from.

In 1974 and before you used to be able to swim in "The Queen's Bath" which I believe was named for the Hawaiian queens who were only allowed to swim here in the distant past.

Basically it was a place made of cooled lava that had cooled and water ran through it created like a large swimming pool area that was very nice on the southern part of the big island of Hawaii. I swam there with my family while we lived there in 1974 before lava eventually covered the whole place over. It says that it got covered over in 1987 by lava on the big island of Hawaii. There is a new queen's bath on Kauai now with the same name.
