I heard that power was down to many people in Portland, Oregon so I called my son to make sure he still had power last night

And he did. His area still had power. His home is an all electric place so at 20 degrees you either get in a sleeping bag without an electric heater or you go to a hotel that does have power. I called to tell him if he didn't have power that he should get a hotel room. However, even though all three have the flu or are getting over it now he still has power so this is good.

However, over 1 million people in the U.S. are presently without power. So, hopefully they have wood and a wood stove or fireplace so they can stay warm enough to survive all this. In the old days there were Only Fireplaces or wood stoves and that's all so sometimes it's important to have one or the other still when the power goes out. Because most generators don't have the power to power most heaters along with your refrigerators, Wifi and Cable and TV and lights. They can usually do all the others but not heating your homes too.
