Rooftop tents folding to side of car?

I don't like how it folds to the side of the car. It seems like that would unduly stress your roof rack and possibly cause leaks or breaks in your roof rack or rain gutters that roof racks are often attached to. Also, how does it support weight when out to the side of the car? So, just the ergonomics of the design seems to be problematic for people getting injured as well as damaging your car in the process in various ways.

When I was young we had a roof rack for my father's VW Westfalia camper van which was long enough at about 7 feet from front to back so that we could put foam pads and sleeping bags on the roof or haul stuff up there when we weren't camping in it. This worked great! But, you still usually need some sort of ladder or something to climb up on top of the van even then. Especially in the deserts where there are scorpions sleeping up on top is a way to avoid rattlesnakes and scorpions from making there way somehow into your tent on the ground. So, I like the idea of rooftop or pickup truck bed camping for this reason too. But, setting up a tent in you pickup truck bed also could be a problem. The next vehicle my Dad bought was a Ford F-150 pickup truck for his work and he put a camper shell on it and this could be locked and also kept out the rain and cold. ON my pickup truck now I have a fold top for my pickup truck bed which also can be locked by locking the gate of the truck. With a fold top you can carry everything from a motorcycle to a refrigerator if you need to and even lumber just by folding the fold top forward twice which is an advantage too.
