Beautiful day to travel even though the temperature the whole way didn't make it above 57 Fahrenheit. Most places along the way were about 55 at the hottest today. Mt. Shasta when I arrived was 37 degrees around 5 pm but right now it is 29 degrees and going down to 16 degrees tonight. So, black ice from rain or snow likely will be what people might face driving around here or possibly on Interstate 5 from about Dunsmuir north to Ashland while it is still dark before morning. This picture is almost exactly what Mt. Shasta looks like today and tonight. Friends of mine have been skiing up on Bunny Flats down to Sand Flats on Mountaineering metal edged skis but I'm not sure what the conditions are like after a day of sun on newly fallen snow for tomorrow. My friends said they got 3 to 8 inches of new snow Saturday. This small picture should enlarge if you click on it.
