I think it is very important to understand what they are saying because Ebola since it is not airborne is very unlikely to spread in developed nations where people are educated and generally follow good medical science. If Ebola was airborne instead of just human fluids born it might be different. So where a whole lot more people likely could die is wherever there isn't compulsory education where people can't easily read or follow good medical instructions.
So, the real danger is not Europe or the U.S. or Canada or Australia where compulsory education exists.
However, if a virus (and all viruses mutate to some degree over time) ever mutated and became airborne it could theoretically wipe out half the population of earth before it subsided.
So, I think the CDC is wise in this warning because of the deaths of the innocent and uneducated in the short term of this year and the long term potential deaths of up to half the population of earth if this thing mutates to an airborne illness over the next couple of years.
