Having Compassion and Forgiveness towards oneself is the beginning of enlightenment. Having compassion and forgiveness for all life in the past, present and future IS Enlightenment.
The first step often (but it depends upon the person) is crying and then releasing one's pain and giving up one's hatred and anger and frustration towards oneself.
This is the first step towards enlightenment. Some people have difficulty doing this and start with crying and experiencing the pain of ALL Mankind at once and breaking down in upset and anger and moving past that anger and upset towards enlightenment.
Any way you look at it either one of these things is the first step towards human enlightenment always.
Buddha brought Compassion towards oneself and all other beings.
I call this Grace. The Grace of God.
25% of Buddhists believe in God. I am one of these but I also believe in Jesus and consider myself to be a Mystical Christian, a MYSTIC.
A Mystic Believes that God is manifesting in every moment of one's life so one is always experiencing God in everything, from a dragonfly going by, to the smile on a baby's face, to the good tasting breakfast, to the sunrise and sunset. All is God manifesting and a mystic sees all this in wonder and gratitude towards God and the Universe for giving us these wonderful gifts 24 hours a day. So, whether one is a Christian Mystic, A Buddhist Mystic, this is true. So, I find no conflict at all between being a Christian Mystic or a Buddhist Mystic. To me, they are the same.
Buddha Brought Compassion.
Then Jesus Brought Forgiveness
They are two aspects of exactly the same thing.
