Imagine if wherever you went if you asked for directions people just either didn't answer you or said" f--- You or shot you or stabbed you. There may still be places on earth now but usually in most places the U.S. is not one of these.
So, lending a helping hand to others when one feels safe enough to do so is the essence of all useful civilization on earth. It is also a basis of almost all religions on earth as well at core (even though some people in almost every religion find ways to pervert "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
But, generally among mankind you will find that helping others is a basic norm especially among the middle Class and poor of the world.
