This has always been pretty obvious to me.
There were people that were "Partially enlightened" and by this I mean they just knew enough for their level of enlightenment to kill them slowly or quickly.
And then there were people who were completely enlightened who went on and often lived to 100 or more years of age.
And what was the difference between these two people (one who knew a little and it eventually killed them) or those who knew a lot and they were able to live to 100 or more?
I think the difference could be summed up in "Moderation in all things".
It is people who go to extremes in anything it seems that wind up dead the quickest.
The People who are aren't zealots often live the longest.
They take a calmer attitude towards everything.
It's a lot like in the old days when sailors wore bellbottom pants because they could fill them with air (the bells) when their ships sunk and use them as life preservers by taking off their pants and making their pants floats by tying them off at the crotch and filling them with air.
But, the younger sailors often (under 25) were the first to die by drowning because they wouldn't stay calm enough when their ships sank in battle or for any reason. It was the older men (older than 25) who had often already survived many many terrible things in their lives and so just had an attitude of "Well. If I stay calm and centered enough I might just survive this calamity too".
And they often did.
So, in a way calm and easy and balanced is how you live through anything long term and survive.
If you just freak out and keep freaking out likely you won't survive whatever it is. But, if you can be calm and even and just think the whole thing through to find a solution, often you can survive almost anything in your lives.
