I was looking at Google maps and Highway 11 goes from Hilo, Hawaii along the southern edge of the Island all the way to Kailua-Kona to the west of the Island. I personally haven't taken this route from Hilo to Kona side all the way because usually lately I go over the high country route by taking 190 to 200 which takes you up near Mt. Mauna Kea which is I think about 14,000 feet in altitude. So, what I'm saying there is a more direct route that goes from Kona side to Hilo. However, if you are anywhere living along Highway 11 it is going to be a problem if the earthquakes continue and the roadbed of Highway 11 is destroyed.
