It's when someone with an already compromised immune system gets a version of coronavirus that variants occur in this person and are spread sometimes to others. So, like if someone has AIDS or other immune compromised situation then their body is a host that develops a worse version sometimes and then if it spreads past them it just keeps going.
The variants I presently know about the most are the UK Variant, the South African Variant, the Brazilian Variants (Brazil is one of the worst coronavirus messes on earth right now), the Mumbai India Variant. And now Stanford University has isolated what they are calling a "Double Variant" which combines the UK and the Mumbai Variant which has now hit San Francisco where this Double Variant Case has been found.
