I'm outside on our deck looking at the full sun in 66 degrees which is nice for this time of year. The wind isn't enough to take away the beach umbrella over the outside table and chairs so far at least. It's really amazing to have so many beautiful days in a row especially after the long long long overcast summer here on the coast near San Francisco.
However, it does feel like there may be many atmospheric rivers this year like last year coming too. But, we have to take it one day at a time. Usually the really heavy weather begins around December or January or February here. So, we will see what actually happens as weather patterns go all over the place worldwide.
I had my Yamaha 2200 generator serviced at the motorcycle shop I bought it at. It's good to have someone to service your generator this time of year. They said that I needed to start it up every 2 weeks now because of how small the gasoline jets are in the carburetor on this thing. However, it is the best generator I have found so far. It's not big but it's very compact and useful and weighs only about 40 or 50 pounds so it can be moved. I bought a plastic shed to keep it that I keep my gasoline and firewood in too for emergencies. I used to put it in my open garage especially if it was raining but I think having it in it's own separate shed in the back yard is much safer to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning because my 2 car garage has a door that leads up to the kitchen and living room. So, not having it run in the garage even with the garage door open in the rain is much better. The generator will run a lamp our 60 inch flat screen TV, the refrigerator and Wifi and sometimes other things as well. But, it doesn't run our central heating system so last year during the worst times of atmospheric river power outages at one point our inside temperature got down to 58 degrees which is pretty cold for people 75 and 68. Also, my wife was recovering from her hip replacement surgery and this made the times especially difficult for her. However, she stayed home like a trooper through all of this and didn't get a hip infection which is one of the worst things to happen if you aren't careful during recovery. So, Alls well that ends well (even though it was very hard on me trying to make everything work last year too. So, this year I'm more organized because I went through 2 larger generators with many problems before I found this smaller more efficient generator that is the best result for our household and needs.
Remember, if at first you don't succeed with a generator, try try again until you get something that works for you. Every household is different so a custom solution to your particular needs is always the best.
