The Fire that closed Interstate 10 in downtown LA

I lived in the greater Los Angeles area from 1954 first in Tujunga and then in Glendale from 1956 until 1969 and then in 1977 I worked doing computer work in a hospital there for awhile too in Glendale.

So, I know all the freeways and how to get around in Los Angeles. And it's true Interstate 10 being cut where it is will be a complete nightmare for Angelinos in general.

IF you live further out the Ventura Freeway sometimes you can Go up over the 405 and go down and around this problem. But, if you live anywhere near the fire you will really deal with more of a nightmare.

One of the reasons this is such a problem is that in East LA there are about 85,000 to 95,000 gang members who are sure to try to cash in on this problem. So, when people try to go on side streets to avoid this problem gangs might be there to greet them.

I suppose one way to protect people might be to have a police car stationed every block or two on major detours in the area to protect people traveling by Car or Truck. This might be one solution. However, as an ex-Greater Los Angeles resident I know this likely will be a problem unless police are there guarding these detours from AK-47s and other automatic weapons and people trying to carjack the people using detours in this area.

Another freeway that might be useful to people is the 210 which parallels Interstate 10 only is further up against the mountains as it moves mostly from West to East. This is one way to avoid this problem. But, depending upon where you live there will be multiple solutions to this ongoing problem. Even by Saturday they only expect to have 1 land open so this could go on a long time because of the structural weaking of the whole Interstate 10 there for weeks or months into the future.

I suppose one option might be to not allow semi Trucks on this section of the freeway and ONLY cars and pickup trucks and motorcycles only. I think this might be a part of the short term solution that this creates.
