Though we had a sunny day and up to 65 degrees two days ago pretty much no sun since then on the coast. With the overcast and the sun not able to hit the ground several things happen here. First of all it is generally cooler without the sun hitting the ground. Second, when it gets much hotter inland it draws the fog and clouds which evaporate off the ocean onto the land where we live. Last night it wet our deck and land and probably made the trees and roses happy too. The low last night and tonight likely will be around 50 degrees.
We have two winters here on the northern California coast. The main winter is between December and March but often it warms up in February or March but it didn't this year it stayed fairly cold for the coast and rainy. So, in some ways it's like winter never ended this year because often this cloudy foggy weather can persist until September or October Lately. So, if I want to see the sun (at least right now) I have to drive 10 to 20 miles inland to see it. However, when I check inland temperatures the fog and clouds must have gone pretty far inland today because their temperatures aren't much better than here today either.
However, the wet wet dew last night which looked like it rained on my deck last night when i looked this morning will help keep forest fires away from the area where I live which is good because weeds in the rolling hills around us are 2 to 6 feet high from all the rain and turning grey or brown now. So, fire this year could get nasty with so many weeds and brush so tall. But, the good news is that where I live on the coast we haven't had a major forest fire since around 1980 so that is encouraging too.
Even 60 miles away today from the coast it is only 80 degrees for a high today which is unusual for this time of year. The weatherman says that temperatures right now are 10 to 20 degrees below normal for our whole area along the coast as of today.
