Has the American Dream Moved to Canada?

Here are the statistics that drive this point of view:

College degrees

46% for U.S.
59% for Canada

Home Ownership rate

68% for Canada
63% for the U.S.

Life Expectancy

78.7 years for U.S.
81.2 years for Canada

The Canadian talking on Fahreed Zacharia' CNN show said the reason for this is first:

"Canada doesn't have people going bankrupt in Canada like we do here in the U.S. because of health care costs."

(which by the way likely will get many times worse once Trump destroys Obamacare by the way). So, our poor parts of society continue to thrive. Access to education is easier. there are cheaper degrees so we don't have the student loan problem you do here in America.j

We have our problems but over all we seem to be muddling through and doing a little bit better"

end quote from Fareed Zacaria on CNN Sunday morning.

IN other words being a little like Europe with more wide open spaces combined with how America was more when I grew up they do a whole lot better than we do at present for their people.

Also, a smaller nation does health care much better than a big nation. Look around the world for example at South Korea which has the best health care system dollar for dollar on earth.

The larger a health care system gets the more likely it will be wasteful and fail. So you see nations around 60 million people doing the best with healthcare. So, I'm thinking healthcare might be better served by states rather than our Federal government here in the U.S. for efficiency. At least in well run places with money like California and New York this could work. For example, California already has Medi-Cal for low income people and small business owners already.

Also, you are now twice as likely to go from the Lowest percentile of income to the Highest in Canada over the U.S.

On the human  index: Source CATO institute

Canada is number 6
And the U.S. is now number 23 in Freedom rankings worldwide of countries.

I couldn't find 2015 or 2016 online but here are the top 5 for 2014

Hong kong 1 Singapore 2 New Zealand 3 Switzerland 4 Canada 5 and Georgia (the country) tied for 5
Also, the U.S. has dropped several places now from number 16 in 2014 to 23rd now.
Also, the Heritage Foundation ranks:
Canada as #7 in Economic Freedom while
The U.S. is at  #17
Also, reporters without borders scores press freedom much higher in Canada now too:
Canada is now #18
U.S. is now #41 in the world in press Freedom.

Note: I finally was able to adjust the font back up to normal but revisiting it in Firefox

Another scary fact about the U.S. is that a person is 6 times as likely to go to jail in the U.S. than in Canada or Europe. This is maybe the single scariest fact about the U.S. that I have listed here!

I had to retype it in Firefox to use a larger font size because Safari wouldn't allow me to change font sizes once the size went very small.

Here is where you can find all the rankings for press freedom on earth. So, if you are a reporter you can know where you are most likely to be harmed, imprisoned or killed by these rankings.
  1. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) presents the 2016 World Press Freedom Index.

So, just so you know China is at 176 in the rankings of press freedoms (press freedoms usually denote just how corrupt the local government is and China is one of the worst on earth for corruption. Russia, in comparison to China is at 143. So, it is actually worse in China than Russia for Freedom of the Press (as you saw of British reporters recently in a quoted article here where they were beat up and their expensive video cameras destroyed.

Just remember the U.S. is #43 in press freedoms on earth and
    Canada is  #18

Let me give you the top ten for good press relations and freedoms there:
    1. Finland
    2. Netherlands
    3. Norway
    4. Denmark
    5. New Zealand
    6. Costa Rica
    7. Switzerland
    8. Sweden
    9. Ireland
    10. Jamaica

The worst 4 on earth are:

    177 Syria
    178 Turkmenistan
    179 North Korea and
    180 Eritrea
