77 Americans (so far) have been found killed by Hurricane Irma (this doesn't include other nationalities on islands)

This was just announced today after 6 more were found dead in a nursing home because the generator went out over night and 6 died because of the air conditioner going out in the early morning today. More and more people are being found dead from various causes from Florida, the Keys, and other Caribbean Islands. The problem is so widespread likely more will die from thirst and exposure and lack of food and the humid heat without air conditioning. So, likely more exposure deaths will occur without air conditioning, food and water people will just fade out and be gone with no hospitalization available on many Islands because everything is gone. All infrastructure on many Caribbean Islands is completely gone. So, as I write this many people likely are dying or close to death already on many islands and possibly rest homes in Florida and other places without electricity or properly gassed or fueled generators. Also, many generators you cannot run constantly for several weeks without them freezing up from the heat or needing an oil change. Another problem with Gasoline and Diesel generators is that exhaust can flow into windows or sliding doors on wind currents and cause carbon monoxide poisoning quite easily. Carbon monoxide has no odor. But, the incomplete combustion smell around carbon monoxide is unmistakable if you know what it smells like.

The ones you have to watch out for the most are portable generators because people often place them in places that will potentially kill them from carbon monoxide or start fires from brush against the exhaust systems or exhaust systems from generators against weeds or grass or small branches. (twigs). Any paper or trash that blows up against the exhaust system of a portable generator can also start a fire.

I bought a portable Generac gasoline powered generator in January or February myself that is big enough to take care of all the electrical needs of my home. Before this I used the Onan generatorbuilt into my motor home. But I don't have that motor home here anymore so I bought this Generac for when 100 mph or more winds come off the ocean usually from January to March sometime an dknock down trees and often we are without power for days or weeks depending upon how bad it is. So, this year I bought a good sized portable generaotr that I can put outside my garage and run from around 8 am to about 9pm to be kind to the neighbors so they can sleep at night. This usually keeps most things in the refrigerator okay by doing this as long as you don't open the door to the refrigerator much at all after 9 pm which is an easy thing to do in  power outage to keep food fresh and good.

My generator is too big to carry so I can wheel it around with a handle when I'm using it to various useful locations.

A 100 foot orange 3 prong utility cord brings the electricity through my garage up to my kitchen and I can plug anything I need to into it from there like the refrigerator, portable lights, Internet, TV and Cable etc.
So, I can recharge cell phones or anything else that needs recharging like laptop computers and the like as well.

Having one or more surge protectors is useful to plug everything into you need to in a line also to protect your appliances from electric surges from lightning bolts or from running out of gas or diesel with your generator.

So, always have a little light like you phone light or another in case the generator goes down at night in your pocket ot sitting next to you on a table at night.
