I drove up to Portland on Thursday and I'm housesitting for my daughters for awhile here. My son and his family just moved here too, so all my biological kids live in Portland so likely I will be spending more time here in the future as well.
Rent is about half as expensive as it is in the SF Bay area which is one reason people are moving here and Seattle from California as California is very very expensive now caused mostly by the Tech Billionaires and Tech millionaires buying up San Francisco and Los Angeles and driving up house prices in some areas by 200% or more which is also making poorer locals homeless because they can no longer afford to rent places in SF or Los Angeles. However, Portland is still reasonable to rent or to buy but likely also will be affected by the Tech boom throughout the States of California, Oregon and Washington. I'm told Seattle residents are upset with Amazon tech billionaires and millionaires for driving up housing costs in Seattle too now.
So, the west coast (from San Diego to the Canadian Border) is becoming a very very rich place from Tech Billionaires and millionaires now. IF you watch "Silicon Valley" on HBO you get the general idea of how "Boom like" the industry actually is and how it works. If you have the brains and intensity and guts you can be a millionaire or billionaire over night sometimes with the right idea at the right time marketed in the right way.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
