Actually, if the U.S. actually has time travel like I believe it does you don't need faster than light travel. You could take a standard vehicle even like we sent to the moon and alter the time in the capsule and travel across the galaxy. Then you could come back to Earth the time you left even if thousands of years might have already passed since you left. In fact, you could arrive at any time before you left, before humans ever lived on earth or at any time in the past, present or future.
If someone had access to time travel all these things would be theoretically possible.
