I think the best way to answer this after a lifetime of Study would be to say that:
"Even if God didn't exist people would have to create a God to worship so they didn't commit suicide eventually".
This has to do more with human psychology more than anything else.
In our hearts we are always around 2 or 3 years old and looking up to our parents like they are Gods.
As we grow up we see that our parents can make mistakes. Hopefully, we don't have to learn this too young and become so traumatized by this that we cannot function as adults as a result.
So, even if God didn't exist people at some point would have to create a God to worship to replace their parents fallibility and also when their parents die.
This is just important to understand about human psychology always down through the thousands to millions or more years that humans have existed on this planet and others.
