Michigan reports 8,867 new COVID-19 cases, 74 deaths, 27% of people 16+ fully vaccinated
The Michigan health department has confirmed 8,867 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, bringing the state to 756,564 total cases since the start of the pandemic.
Another 74 COVID-19 deaths were also reported Tuesday, 37 of which were identified through the state health department's regular review of previous death certificates. This increases Michigan's death toll to 16,586.

In the state’s latest update on vaccines, 107,416 doses were administered in Michigan on Friday, 67,020 on Saturday and 15,475 on Sunday. The seven-day average for doses administered is 89,397, below the state's target of 100,000 a day. Of the population 16 and older, 27.2% are fully vaccinated, with a goal of 70% vaccinated by the end of the year.
Of 58,871 diagnostic tests reported Monday, 8,374 yielded positive results — a positivity rate of 14.2%.
As of Monday, Michigan has 2,735 confirmed cases of the UK variant (B.1.1.7) and five probable cases, with 513 confirmed cases reported in the Michigan Department of Corrections. In addition, there are nine confirmed and two probable cases of the B.1.351 strain first detected in South Africa. Two strains originally detected in California, B.1.427 and B.1.429, account for 20 and 22 cases, respectively, and there have been nine confirmed cases of the P.1 strain originally detected in Brazil. Michigan has a total of 2,802 variant cases.
Included in Tuesday's report were 84,670 probable cases and 1,071 probable deaths, for a total of 841,234 cases and 17,657 deaths.
