This is one of the funniest movies of it's kind I have ever seen on many different levels. You can see the mental and emotional weaknesses of all the main characters leading to different downfalls from death to confusion to disaster in their lives from the very beginning. A most excellent depiction of people out of touch with reality on many different levels. However, often you meed people like this every day and might not know who you are talking to.
It's one of the reasons that I left Los Angeles in 1976 for Mt. Shasta to begin with because I just met too many people who were frail in various ways mentally and emotionally. And I find that people in cities are the most vulnerable of all to the kinds of thinking like you see in this movie. Kudos for Brad Pitt and George Clooney and the rest for starring in this very funny movie about emotionally and physically self destructive people.
It's done in such a masterful way that you cannot stop laughing from beginning to end even though the subject matter often is horrific too on various levels. You can just see certain people behaving like this who live in their own mental boxes of reality that are not survival oriented enough. So, whether it is about mental frailty or emotional frailty or both combined in various ways in different people the movie is really scary because so many people might actually behave this way in some situations.
I'm really glad I retreated to the wilderness to get over CITY THINK like this in 1976 for the first time to Mt. Shasta.
Somehow getting deep into the wilderness and seeing how life really functions beyond so called civilization was very civilizing for me in a really basic way that I have been grateful for ever since.
If you aren't first a survivor then often you do not survive your life emotionally or physically. And I found that living in the wilderness of Mt. Shasta's environs helped me to be a survivor unlike most of the charectors depicted in this movie.
