One of the more interesting things about California is we usually ONLY get rain (over most of the state) from about San Francisco or Sacramento South from October of any year to May (at the latest) of any year.
Yes. there could be exceptions but this is the general rule. However, lightning and thunder rain storms are more common in summers in the Cascades north to Seattle or sometimes even in the Sierras. But, the rest of the state we usually get no rain to speak of at all.
This is partly because so much of California is basically a desert either high desert or low desert.
People in other parts of the country might not realize that California is about 1/2 desert like Arizona is almost all desert except for Flagstaff and north of there. New Mexico is all mostly desert too except for mountain ranges like the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I know something about New Mexico because I spent the last year of high school at a private church school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I hadn't lived where it snowed since 1952 when I was 4 years old in Seattle so I enjoyed being where it snowed once more at least for that year. It was an amazing experience for me as a 17 year old being that far away from home for the first time that long.
But, maybe the fact that California is almost 1/2 or 1/3 desert might be a realization for most people on earth who don't know this.
