If you study history what we are presently observing in the GOP is two new parties forming likely over time

Though the Democrats are very diverse in their positions from liberal to conservative they have a way of aligning usually over important things. 

This is No longer true of the Republican party. You have the Reagan Republicans who are conservative but not ridiculous in their positions and then you have the rightist extremists for which government itself is evil and they are basically Anarchists at this point or at best something like Nazis under Hitler.

So, the extreme right of the GOP don't actually believe in Democracy but only the dismantling of government itself sort of like Anarchists who want to destroy all governments.

At least the Democrats all seem to realize that Government is a necessary evil.

When you get extreme rightists basically saying all government is evil you begin to have nothing but violence.

Because if you really study what Democracy actually is it is Bloodless war all the time. This is the best definition I know of for a working democracy. It's an alternative to war or revolution with thousands to millions of people dying.

So, democracy is necessary for any type of equality anywhere where people aren't dying by the hundreds and thousands all the time violently.
